OK RCWA Members ! After some extended discussion at the last couple of RCWA Board meetings, there is going to be a change in the rules for general shotgun use outside of the formal skeet and trap fields. Effective immediately (21 Sept. 2024) in ranges 2 through 13, the shooting of shotguns at targets attached to the wire (chicken wire) target facilities including the posts is prohibited and will result in a range rules violation. In addition, leaving shotgun hulls in ranges 2 thru 13 (and the concrete bays where there should be no shotgun use) will also result in a range rules violation. The damage being experienced due to shotgun use on those range facilities has become unsustainable for continued member use and range expenses. This new policy will be included in the Range Manual in its next release and is being included in the range orientation classes starting today (21 Sept. 2024).
There Is a shotgun pattern board behind the Big Barn by the 5 Stand facility if that is your need. Otherwise, if you need to shoot your shotgun 10 to 40 times (or whatever number) as we are finding from the shotgun hulls left, then bring some cardboard to to accommodate your needs and clean it up when finished. If you are not leaving your ranges 2 through 13 as clean as you found them then you are in violation of range rules.
A range rules violation notice will result in loss of range access until you appear at a RCWA Board meeting for further resolution. This process for handling range use violations is not new.

Past President of RCWA, Bill Deaver passed away on the afternoon, 26 July 2024.

Bill was president for RCWA for 25+ years. This included some very lean financial years for RCWA when it took some good leadership for the survival of RCWA. Thank you Bill for this legacy. RIP

RCWA Lost & Found Dropbox    We have added a plastic tub drop box just inside the Clubhouse front door. We also included a log book in the box and would appreciate it if you would log in items with a date so we can kind of know how long items have been present. This should handle most of the smaller items that seem to show up. If it is a larger item, just leave it beside the tub. If you are missing an item, it will give you a place to check for it or have someone check for you.  And if you find stuff, please turn it in.

Nice range story ... Couple of the RCWA officers received a frantic phone call late Friday (29 Dec) evening from a person who was in the area visiting and had been at the RCWA range Friday afternoon shooting (Range/berm 7 I think) with others. Some time after leaving the range, they realized they had left a valuable gun at the range and were wondering if we had someone who could check on it. None of us were at or near the range. The individual drove an hour back to the range (which was dark by this time) and found his gun still in Range/berm 7. He indicated someone had apparently moved it to another table while subsequently using the range. Needless to say, he was most appreciative that others had left the gun.
So here is a big thank you to any of our members involved. You made the owner very happy - family history apparently associated with the gun. This is not the first time we have gotten reports of members leaving equipment on the range. Please let RCWA officer(s) know if you find equipment on the range so we can put people in touch. Thanks again !!

RCWA Member Notification !! There is a new RCWA Range Manual available on the RCWA web site. The RCWA Range Manual is located at Range Procedures – ROWAN COUNTY WILDLIFE ASSOCIATION .
This update includes the operational procedures for the new and improved Archery Range ! The new Archery Range is available for use by RCWA members as long as you observe the new procedures outlined in this new RCWA Range Manual release. There are still some Archery Range signage and landscaping work to be finished. There are a number of other editorial cleanups and clarifications included in this new Range Manual release as well. So you might want to do a quick review.

As some of you may have noticed today. we have new gate card readers on the RCWA front gate. They are a combo device that has the traditional electronic card reader as well as a key pad. Continue to scan your gate card exactly as you have been doing - nothing changes.

We have recently upgraded the software components used to maintain the member information used by the front gate controller to authenticate gate access. As part of that upgrade, we now have access to some new processes that require the combo readers for us to utilize the new processes. We also can now mange a lot more of the gate processes remotely. The key pads allow us to setup temporary gate access processes that keep the front gate locked during large match setup activities without issuing gate cards. It also will help us with range access for non-repetitive vendor activities as well.

Range Closing !!

The RCWA range will be closed Tuesday ( 11 July ) until probably 5pm or 6 pm in the evening. We are having two very large dead oak trees removed that are next to the entrance road by the lake. There will be equipment on the road during this tree removal process and large pieces of trees coming down. We will try to post any changes in this process.

The new Rimfire Range is now operational ! This is reserved for .22 caliber rimfire (.22 short and .22 long rifle specifically) guns only as noted by the signage on the shelter. Also, please clean up any range debris since we are still rounding up some trash cans.

You will need to bring your own targets for now to hang on the target fences. We already have some permanent steel targets to add for general use but it has been too wet to get those installed.

Please make sure you read the Rimfire Range procedures in the Range Manual before using the Rimfire Range. The Rimfire Range light/warning system is different from the main Rifle Range. ( https://www.rcwa.club/range-procedures/ ) If you think the Rimfire Range usage instructions need any clarifications, please e-mail [email protected] with your input.

Thanks for your patience - the weather has slowed this project down from time to time. Enjoy the new RCWA range facility.

Annual RCWA Membership Renewal Update: We are getting to the end of the annual membership renewal process - 30 June 2023. To prevent renewal penalties, your annual RCWA membership renewal must be in the mail and post marked no later than 30 June.
Some secondary reminders: Follow the renewal notice instructions. You must sign and return the renewal form regardless of whether you owe a renewal fee or not - no exceptions. You must mail the renewal form and any associated payment to the address noted at the very top of the form. There is no mail or package service/delivery directly to the RCWA range location - none ! So please quit trying to use that street address for any RCWA contact. If you cannot find your renewal notice, send an email to [email protected] that includes your current address and request another renewal notice. If you have moved and did not notify RCWA of the address change, then you may not have gotten your renewal notice. We are very confident that all active members were sent a renewal notice to the address we have in the membership records. Maintaining membership contact information is a continuing challenge.

REMINDER:  The USPSA Area 6 match is being hosted at RCWA this week ( 8 May thru 14 May ). They will be using ranges/bays 2 thru 13 so plan your range use accordingly this week. Match setup is 8 May thru 10 May. Good opportunity to watch some really good USPSA shooters.

The annual RCWA membership renewal notices were delivered to the PO today (26 April 2023). So keep your eyes open for your membership renewal notice. You must sign the renewal notice and return it with payment (if any is due) to RCWA prior to 30 June 2023. If you do not sign the renewal notice and return it, you will not receive your new membership badge and your gate card will be deactivated after the June 30 deadline. It cost money to fix your renewal and delays your range access after June 30.
Start using your new membership badge as soon as you receive it ! Thanks for your timely response !

Notice:  There is a new version of the RCWA Range Manual (dated April 17, 2023) now available on this RCWA web site under the Range Procedures tab.   The big item is the addition of the Rimfire Range procedures.  There is also a bit of reorganization so it hopefully flows a bit better and a few minor corrections.

Still have a few landscaping/signage details to finish of the Rimfire Range to make it operational.
